Center Approach
Alberta Education recommends a learning center approach, which best meets the developmental needs of each child. A center is an area of the classroom in which materials are set out for the children to interact with.
At Griffiths-Scott School we focus on providing a playful learning environment through exploration centers and large and small group activities.
Centers are designed to:
- develop self-confidence
- improve physical skills
- develop the use of all senses
- promote cooperation with others
- provide experiences with many developing skills
- expand vocabulary and interest in books and numbers
In Addition to Centers
The Kindergarten Program may include large group activities such as:
- Discussion related to the theme
- Storytime
- Sharing time
- Physical Education
- Music
- Drama/Creative Movement
- Field trips related to the theme
- Guest speakers and/or special presentations
- Snack Time
- Library time
- Media Presentations i.e. Videos, Computers
- Special projects (crafts, cooking, etc.)
